20 photos as hundreds start 2026 off on the right foot at Woodhouse Moor New Years Day parkrun in Leeds

Hundreds of people wanting to get 2026 off to a positive start met at a historic Leeds run.

Woodhouse Moor, which was the first site to host a parkrun outside of London, regularly hosts the parkruns on Saturday mornings, as well as on Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Nearly 500 people took part in the 5km route around the park this morning, with the first two slots being taken by brothers Tadhgh and Reuben Keating of Headingley.

There were also milestones reached for runners Matthew Akpan from Cross Gates, who was taking part in his 400th parkrun, and Martin Bare of Farsley, who was running his 450th.

Speaking after, Matthew said that there was a “great atmosphere” at the event.

Our photographer Steve Riding was up good and early to get down to the Hyde Park community space to capture the lively event.
