Leeds band Adult DVD team up with Welcome Skate Store for exclusive album launch pop-up
Ahead of their debut album release on Fat Possum Records, Leeds six-piece Adult DVD are taking over Thornton’s Arcade for a one-day merch pop-up, in-store signings, and a hometown after-party
Two pillars of West Yorkshire's independent scene are joining forces this week as synth-groove band Adult DVD team up with Thornton's Arcade favourite Welcome Skate Store for an exclusive merchandise drop.
The collaboration celebrates the release of the Leeds six-piece’s self-titled debut album on Fat Possum Records this week (September 25), blending hook-driven indie with 90s acid house and sharp lyricism
Recorded locally at The Nave Studios, the album release comes hot on the heels of the band’s recent success, with the single ‘Real Tree Lee’ earning A-list rotation on the hallowed BBC 6 Music.
To mark the launch, Welcome Skate Store in Thornton’s Arcade will host a one-day pop-up shop on Saturday (September 26).
Designed in collaboration with the band, the exclusive merch collection features two T-shirt designs across five colourways, two caps, and a limited run of custom Adult DVD x Welcome skateboard decks.
"There are so many parallels between what we do as an independent retailer and the independent music sector that they operate in, that it felt completely natural for us to work together," says Sam Barratt, co-founder of Welcome Skate Store.
"It all came together so easily. Go buy their record!"
Any remaining stock from the pop-up will be made available on the Welcome website for 24 hours on September 27, before becoming exclusive to the band's upcoming UK tour.
The pop-up forms part of a full weekend of album release events across the city: fans can catch an album playback and signing at Wax Bar with Crash Records on Friday evening, followed by an in-store signing at Jumbo Records on Saturday.
The celebration then moves to Hyde Park Book Club for an official after-party featuring DJ sets from Adult DVD, Champagne Problem, and Bathing Suits.
Following an autumn UK tour, Adult DVD will return to Leeds for a major headline show at Project House on October 30 - just in time for the Halloween season.
