The music icon shared a heartbreaking post on social media

  • Gary Numan has revealed the pain he felt after learning about the death of his brother, John.
  • The news came during a performance on the current Telekon tour in Birmingham over the weekend.
  • The tour is set to continue but acting as a tribute to John, alongside celebrating the anniversary of Telekon.

The brother of Industrial music legend, Gary Numan, has died at the age of 60, after news was confirmed to the singer mid-set during a performance in Birmingham this weekend.

Footage from the show showed Numan breaking down on stage while performing the song ‘Please Push No More’ at the O2 Academy, with his wife comforting the ‘Cars’ singer after he received what he called the “worst news ever.”

John died after suffering a heart attack, after spending the evening with Gary during his Telekon tour performance in Leeds, catching up with him and talking for hours before and after the performance. But, according to Numan, his brother never made it back to his car after bidding farewell around 12:20am.

Numan would go on to remark that he was “betrayed by his own heart,” and that he is currently “drifting, broken and shell shocked,” but will continue with the current tour because his father and John’s wife believe his brother would have wanted him to.

Addressing his grief in a post on Facebook, Numan wrote: “I had no idea something had happened to him, and that it had happened so close to where we were, until later that morning when my Dad called with the terrible news.

“It will haunt me forever that we may have driven off, not knowing he was lying in a rainy street just yards away. Luckily, a kind person saw him and called an ambulance, but it was too late.”

The singer has now stated that the tour is no longer a celebration of the Telekon album, but now a tribute to his brother.

“I have no idea what to do,” he continued on Facebook, “other than to continue doing the only thing I know how to do, the thing John was always so proud of.

He loved Telekon. He was only 15 when I made it (..._ it’s a tribute to John, my brother, the best brother a man could ever have.”
