Leeds has always been a city that lives and breathes live music. Our venues aren't just buildings; they are the backdrops to some of the most defining nights of our lives.
When we asked Yorkshire Evening Post readers on our Facebook page to name the single best concert they had ever been to in the city, the response was an absolute avalanche of nostalgia.
We’ve stepped back in time to curate 21 of the most incredible, historic, and brilliantly chaotic gigs that took place right on our doorstep.
Did you manage to catch any of these legendary sets?

The Born in the USA tour remains etched in Leeds folklore for its sheer stamina. Tessa Heelas and Jonathan Simon Brown both vividly remember "The Boss" playing for a staggering four hours non-stop. | other

8. Nirvana at the Duchess of York (1989)
Long before they changed the world with Nevermind, Kurt Cobain and co. played a gritty, loud set supporting Tad at the legendary, long-lost Duchess on Vicar Lane. Readers Jayne Wagstaffe and Dave Arundel remember it as an absolute badge-of-honour moment. | Local Library

9. Oasis at the Leeds Irish Centre (1994)
Right on the cusp of superstardom, Oasis blew the roof off the York Road venue for just £6 a ticket. Reader Steve Welsh even shared his original ticket stub from August 10, 1994, remembering it as "absolutely mental." | Local Library

10. Slayer at the Town & Country Club (1994)
To give the list a much-needed dose of pure metal representation, we look to the rowdy crowds who packed out the old Town & Country Club (now the O2 Academy). Reader Andy Bampton flagged their legendary sets as an absolute peak for the city's heavy music scene, proving that Leeds audiences have always known how to open up a proper mosh pit. | Goedefroit Music/Getty Images

11. Michael Jackson at Roundhay Park (1988)
The Bad tour brought 90,000 screaming fans to Roundhay, complete with MJ flying across the stage in a rocket backpack. For reader David Oswin, the standout memory was a massive crowd sing-along: "Singing Happy Birthday to MJ on his 30th birthday was unbelievable." | Local Library

12. Prince at the First Direct Arena (2014)
When Prince hit the city during his Hit and Run tour, it instantly became one of the venue's most revered nights. Emma Higginbottom and James Graves both cited his incredible musicianship as an arena peak. | Getty Images
