'Without support, these gigs could be our last': Leeds punk band Ultimate Thunder issue urgent funding appeal

The most punk band in Britain, Leeds’ Ultimate Thunder, need your help!

Once dubbed "the most punk rock band in Britain," acclaimed Leeds outfit Ultimate Thunder have issued an urgent appeal for financial support to prevent upcoming international tour dates from becoming their final performances.

Comprising musicians with learning disabilities, Down syndrome, and autism, the six-piece band have won national acclaim for their raw, improvised sound, high-energy live shows, and inspiring rise through the UK music scene.

The band recently made headlines following the release of the acclaimed feature documentary by Ben G Brown, tracing their journey - which picked up the prestigious Audience Award at Sheffield DocFest earlier this summer and is screening as part of the Leeds International Film Festival - alongside news that their third studio album is currently in post-production.

Furthermore, international demand has seen the group booked for major European appearances, including Sweden's Gothenburg and Malmö in November, alongside Belgium's In-Outsider Festival in Brussels this October.

However, behind the scenes, difficulty in securing essential grant funding has left the band facing a severe financial deficit—putting their future and rehearsal space in jeopardy.

In an urgent statement released to fans and the wider music community, the band warned that without immediate financial backing, their upcoming European shows could mark the end of the project: "You may have seen all of the incredible things that we are up to at the moment — the documentary, album three being mixed, and international gigs in Brussels, Malmö and Gothenburg.

"But we are struggling to secure grant money to keep the band going, and without financial support, these gigs may be the last thing that we do. Please help us keep the Thunder rolling!"

To help secure their future, the band have launched a supporter reward scheme offering exclusive digital access, physical merchandise, original artwork, and lifetime gig passes for donors.
