Audience expected to go Wilde for latest production at Theatre Royal Wakefield

As part of a limited UK tour ahead of a London run, The Importance of Being Oscar, is to be performed at Theatre Royal Wakefield next month.

During the production, which runs from Tuesday June 9–Wednesday June 10, Alastair Whatley, playing Oscar Wilde, will share an intimate insight into the man who became an icon through his works yet lived a life more dramatic than anything he ever wrote.

Famed for pieces including The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Importance of Being Earnest, and An Ideal Husband, the performance will showcase the rise and fall, glory and devastation of Oscar, through his own words and those of his fiercest champion, fabled Irish writer, Micheál Mac Liammóir.

Senior Communications and Programming Manager, Emma Proctor from Theatre Royal Wakefield, said: “This is a must for both fans of Oscar Wilde and those that are intrigued by the life of a man that was so profoundly talented, yet seemingly somewhat troubled too.

“We can’t wait to welcome Original Theatre & Reading Rep Theatre to Wakefield and look forward to showcasing a performance that adds variety to our schedule.

"With four and five stars from critics, we know that this will be a production that people remember long after the final curtain.”

For tickets to the performance, which start from just £16.75, please visit: Theatre Royal Wakefield | Theatre Royal Wakefield or for enquiries, please contact the Box Office on tel. 01924 211 311.
