The thrill of being amongst a community, counting down despite the cold snap in the air as a notable name - could be a local, could be a celebrity - flips the switch and your area is illuminated with the wonder of lights filling the dark skies.
It’s a wonderful sensation, but sadly not one that those in Leeds city centre will be able to enjoy, as the council-funded event was scrapped in 2021. However, they have been replaced by the return of the Leeds Christmas Market and the Ice Cube @ Christmas experience.
But for those seeking the true magic of the season, the focus shifts to the local villages and suburbs, from Methley to Horsforth. This year promises a massive wave of local, community-led celebrations.
We’ve picked 13 that have caught our attention this year, all of which are a stone’s throw away from the city centre and accessible by bus, if you want to do the locals a favour and leave the car at home.
Our information is correct as of writing, but as ever if there is a last minute change, do check on the Facebook event pages that are up-and-running for these neighbourhood spectacles.
