Leeds choir project celebrates songbird Corinne Bailey Rae with one-day singing event
Music lovers are invited to put their records on this Sunday 🎶
Leeds is set to shine this weekend as The Attic Sings launches the first in a series of one-day choir projects which will bring together voices from across the city to celebrate its thriving independent music culture.
Singers of all abilities are invited to The Attic on May 24 for an uplifting and collaborative singing experience which brings together voices from across the city.
The unique event, which will take place from 11am-2pm, offers music lovers the chance to learn, rehearse, and perform as a unified choir under the guidance of renowned Leeds choir leader Sarah Stead.

Participants will explore vocal technique, harmony-building, and teamwork in an inclusive and encouraging atmosphere.
They will learn to sing the iconic Put Your Records On by local legend Corinne Bailey Rae, 20 years after her first album debuted at number one.

Grammy Award winner and Leeds native Bailey Rae previously told the Yorkshire Evening Post that her hometown has an “amazing” arts scene and she feels like a “real representative for Leeds around the world.”
Sarah Stead, choir leader and managing director at Vera Media, a non-profit adult learning organisation said: “This event really is a celebration of the thriving independent music scene in our city.
“We’re so supportive of what David and the team at Attic have created to champion independent artists in Leeds, hosting gigs and offering rehearsal space and more, we wanted to work together on something really special for musicians of all abilities in the city.
“Whether you’re a seasoned performer or simply love to sing in the shower, this is your opportunity to connect with others and experience the joy of collective music-making.”

Tickets for The Attic Sings cost £20 and are inclusive of singing and lunch, with parts and score sheets sent out in advance.
