Coronation Street fans who tune in tonight are in for a rude surprise! 🚨📺
- Coronation Street is taking a surprise break tonight (January 13).
- The soap has moved to a new schedule on ITV for 2026.
- But why will it not air an episode as planned this evening?
A surprise break is coming to Weatherfield as Coronation Street is set to take a night off. ITV has been forced into a schedule change this evening.
Corrie has undergone a huge change in 2026 as the broadcaster introduced a new soap power hour. The legendary show is now on five days a week - barring any shake-ups.
But why will the soap take a break this evening? Here’s all you need to know:
Why is Coronation Street not on today?
ITV has made a big change to its soap slate for 2026. Starting on January 5, Corrie has reverted back to a five days a week schedule, with one 30 minute episode per day.
It is part of a soap ‘power hour’ that usually runs from 8pm to 9pm. However, due to the broadcaster having coverage of the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg match between Newcastle United and Manchester City it has prompted a surprise shake-up.
ITV’s football coverage will be live from 7.30pm and run through to around 10.30pm, clashing with the usual 8pm soap power hour. It means that Corrie has been pulled from the schedule this evening (January 13).
When is Coronation Street back on TV?
Fortunately, fans will not have to wait too long for Corrie to return this week. The soap will be resuming regular service tomorrow (January 14) night.
Coronation Street will return at 8.30pm on Wednesday. The preview, via Radio Times, reads: “Ronnie and Kevin fear the consequences of Debbie's decision, the discovery of a pregnancy test kit leaves Megan with some explaining to do, and David introduces Jodie to the Platts.”
Corrie will continue as planned throughout the rest of the week with episodes also on Thursday (January 15) and Friday (January 16) night at 8.30pm. The soap can also be watched on ITVX.
