Goth to return to its spiritual home in Leeds city centre

It’s a day/night party aimed at helping a generation of Goths relive those heady days.

Do you remember staggering out of Le Phono on a Saturday afternoon after four pints of Stowford Press snakebite, into a crowd of confused Morrisons shoppers?

The Key Club, a basement venue in the bowels of the Merrion Centre next to the old site of Le Phonographique, the UK’s first Goth club, will be hosting an authentic 80s alternative party.

After a sell-out launch at The Key Club in January, Darkside is set to storm back on Saturday, March 14 from 4pm until 9pm with special guests, 80s legends Ghost Dance, performing a live club set.

The event aims to take revellers on a dark thrill ride through the best of the alternative 80s music-scape, transporting them back to their favourite decade for a day to remember (- whether you were actually there or just wish you had been.

It will feature DJs Dan Lomax (The Town & Country Club, The Cockpit & Black Lodge) & Richard Miechje (Salvation) .

Dan Lomax said: “The response to our sold-out January debut was beyond anything we expected.

“What stood out most was the mix of generations sharing the same dancefloor: people who’d been there for the original alternative 80s scene dancing shoulder‑to‑shoulder with younger fans who’ve fallen in love with it decades later.

“Some brought their children, some brought their parents - depending on how you look at it - and together they created something really special.”

Richard added: “The Key Club remains Leeds’ only dedicated alternative and rock venue, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have secured such an amazing venue for Darkside: from its historical significance, to its role in carrying the torch of Leeds’ alternative culture, to its excellent facilities and accessibility - the Key Club is perfect.”
