Leeds dads invited to get creative with hair at free Plaits and Play workshop
The event is coming up this month
Dads and carers in Leeds are being invited to learn how to plait and style their children’s hair at a free family workshop.
Plaits & Play will take place at Leeds City Museum on Saturday, October 17, from 11am to 5pm.
The hands-on event is aimed at dads and carers who want to build their confidence when it comes to styling their children’s hair – whether that means learning a simple plait or getting to grips with everyday hair care.

The sessions will be led by Leeds-based hair specialists BOOMCHIKKABOOM, with each lasting around an hour.
Those attending will be shown simple techniques they can practise at home, including basic plaits, everyday styling and hair-care tips.
All hair types will be catered for and celebrated, while children will also be able to take part in creative play during the event.
Each dad can bring one child aged between two and 11, with model heads provided so they can practise the techniques before trying them at home.
The event is being organised by This is Yorkshire Beauty and Leeds Dads as part of Yorkshire’s celebrations for British Beauty Week.
This year’s theme is Impact, with the workshop highlighting how something as simple as doing a child’s hair can create opportunities for bonding, confidence and self-expression.
Vicky Clapham, co-founder of This is Yorkshire Beauty, said: “Plaits & Play is about so much more than learning how to do a plait.
“It’s about giving dads and carers the confidence to get involved, have a go and enjoy that time with their children.”
Faye Kenny, founder of BOOMCHIKKABOOM, said: “Hair is such an important part of identity and culture, so we want dads to leave feeling more confident with their children’s hair, and to have plenty of fun while learning.”
Errol Murray, founder of Leeds Dads, added: “Plaits & Play is a fun way to learn something new, whilst giving dads and carers a bit more confidence when styling their children’s hair.”
The free event has been supported by local businesses The Salon Stockroom, Bloom Longevity Labs and RJC Plant Services, as well as Leeds City Museum.
