LNER named travel partner for Light Night Leeds 2026 with £12 fares and fairy-tale Briggate artwork

LNER has been announced as the Official Travel Partner of Light Night Leeds 2026, offering super-low £12 fares to the city alongside sponsoring a major fairytale projection artwork on Briggate

Light Night Leeds has named LNER as its Official Travel Partner for 2026, aiming to connect culture lovers from across the UK to one of the country's largest annual arts and light festivals

Taking place on October 28 and 29, the two-night event will once again transform Leeds city centre with illuminated artworks, installations, and performances from local, national, and international artists.

The festival is expected to attract over 200,000 visitors to experience the city after dark.

In addition to its travel partnership, LNER is sponsoring Far, Far Away, a major six-part projection artwork set to take over Briggate.

Co-commissioned with the British Library and created by Hungarian art collective Lightspray Visual, the installation draws inspiration from classic fairy tales to transform the shopping street into an immersive journey through enchanted forests and mythical worlds.

The artwork sponsorship ties directly into LNER's ongoing literary initiatives for the National Year of Reading, which have previously featured partnerships with bestselling authors including Matt Haig, Sir Michael Morpurgo, and Sara Pascoe.

“Light Night Leeds is one of the UK's most exciting cultural events, showcasing the creativity, imagination, and vibrancy of the city,” says Stuart Thomas, Communications Director at LNER.

“Encouraging reading and opening up access to stories has been a major focus for us, and 'Far, Far Away' is a wonderful example of how literature can be brought to life.”

Court Spencer, Principal Curator and Producer of Light Night Leeds, added: “We are delighted to welcome LNER as our Official Travel Partner. Their support will help us welcome visitors from across the country to experience the festival, while their sponsorship demonstrates a genuine commitment to creativity and culture.”

Light Night Leeds 2026 transforms venues across the city centre on October 28 and 29, featuring Lightspray Visual’s Far, Far Away projection on Briggate and LNER Advance single fares from London starting at just £12 (£8 with a Railcard).
