Lotherton unveils ‘magical’ new Leeds Halloween trail for families this half-term

Halloween is almost here 🎃🧙‍♀️

A brand-new Halloween trail is coming to Lotherton this half-term, giving families the chance to help witches mend a broken spell.

With spooky season just around the corner, families visiting the country house near Aberford can enjoy the new trail, “Spellbound”, running during the autumn half-term week.

Known for its immersive Halloween trails, the latest event will see families set off on a quest to collect clues and help mend a broken spell.

Equipped with a spellbook, visitors will head out in the search for ten willow arches belonging to the witches of Lotherton, found throughout the woods, gardens, zoo and around Lotherton Hall.

Each arch holds a missing clue, and once all ten have been collected, the charm can be mended at the Great Cauldron in “Cinderwick Village”.

Those aged nine and above can also look forward to the evening scare event, Once Upon a Nightmare, returning to the estate for its third run, alongside the annual pumpkin patch.

Councillor James Gibson, Leeds City Council's executive member for environment, said: “This year, Halloween at Lotherton promises to be better than ever, with magical events for the whole family.

“Once Upon a Nightmare is perfect for thrill seekers aged nine and above who are fans of fairytales with a scary twist, whereas Spellbound will be an enchanting trail for those interested in helping our witches mend a spell at a gentler pace.”

Spellbound takes place at Lotherton Hall from October 24 to November 1, 2026, with entry included in general admission to the country house.
