Northern Ballet to bring Michael Pink’s fairy-tale production of Cinderella for a 20-show festive run this Christmas
Northern Ballet is set to bring a magical new staging of Cinderella to Leeds Grand Theatre this Christmas, marking one of the UK premieres of choreographer Michael Pink’s acclaimed production.
Running for a 20-show festive season, the production features Prokofiev’s famous classical score performed live by the Northern Ballet Sinfonia.

While retaining the core rags-to-riches fairy tale, Pink’s production introduces distinct twists to the traditional narrative; instead of a fairy godmother, Cinderella is watched over by the spirit of her late mother alongside a house-boy named Jack, who acts as her real-life guardian angel.
Bringing a touch of traditional pantomime humour to the stage, the stepsisters will be performed in true panto fashion by male dancers from the company.
The production will also showcase local young talent, with children from the Academy of Northern Ballet joining the professional company on stage as dressmakers, cobblers, and gardeners during the spellbinding transformation scene.
Choreographer Michael Pink said: "I see the story of Cinderella as one of fundamentally holding on to hope, regardless of circumstance.
“That in essence is what we want audience members, young and old, to take with them out into the world."
Federico Bonelli, Artistic Director of Northern Ballet, added: "Michael Pink’s Cinderella combines classical ballet technique with heartfelt storytelling and a good dose of humour, making it the perfect production to be enjoyed by all ages."
