Screen Babble: why is no-one talking about Tip Toe? Full episode

Should Russell T Davies’ Channel 4 show been a bigger hit? 📺

There is nothing quite like television to spark debates at work, down the pub, around the water cooler.

From Mr. Bates vs The Post Office and Adolescence, we have seen popular hits have real world impact beyond the small screen in recent years. Yet, Russell T Davies’ brand new show Tip Toe has become another Channel 4 show to simply come and go.

Despite its timely examination of the state of the nation in 2026, the programme has not had anywhere near the same impact as those other blockbuster hits. The Screen Babble crew has assembled to try and answer why.

Host Kelly Crichton and TV critic Matt Mohan-Hickson dive deep into Tip Toe, having both finished it. From its provocative start, to its heavy subject matter, they debate whether that has prevented it from being the hit it seemed like it would be.

The Babblers also discuss whether it is down to the show being on Channel 4 - and not Netflix like Adolescence. It is not the first series to come and go on the broadcaster in the last year - including Dirty Business.

There is also time to discuss the return of House of the Dragon, which is back after two years away. The eye-catching opening begs the question, why wasn’t that episode part of the second series.

Plus, the Babblers ask the question - is it worth starting new streaming shows now? Following Netflix’s cancellation of The Boroughs, before Matt had the chance to watch it, the duo ponder the trigger happy nature of streamers in 2026.

From Netflix cancelling 30 shows last year, to how that compares to regular TV.
