SOUTH Yorkshire chart stars The Sherlocks have announced they are to headline a homecoming festival next summer.

The indie four-piece - frontman Kiaran Crook, his brother and drummer Brandon, lead guitarist Alex Procter and bassist Trent Jackson - will headline the show at Kelham Island’s Sheffield Steel Yard, on Saturday June 27, 2026.

The Sherlocks will be joined by rising stars Sunderland’s Tom A Smith and fellow Yorkshire acts The Denabys and Skylights, plus more names to be announced.

Songwriter Kiaran told us he is “absolutely buzzing” to be playing a part of Sheffield the band “has grown to love.”

He said: “Everyone always plays the usual venues in Sheffield, which is great for the city, but for us, as a band and for our journey, we really wanted to do something different this time around.

“Why not play the places that haven’t been played before and put them on the map!

“I can’t recall any band putting a show of this size at Kelham Island. It’s unheard of, uncharted territory. I know people will not only love the show and the bands we put on but also love the local area.”

Once a cauldron of trade and industry for nearly a thousand years, Kelham Island is now a popular destination for pubs, beer, food and other cultural attractions alongside the River Don, with many venues acknowledging the area’s enterprising past.

Now it is set to play a bigger role in Sheffield’s music scene in a location with a capacity of around 2,500.

Kiaran added: “This feels like a game changer for the Sheffield music scene. I think you’ll end up seeing more gigs in the Kelham Island area as a result of this show. So, get involved and be the first to do it with us!”

Brandon said: “This is what we've always dreamed off as a band, putting on these big outdoor gigs for everyone to come and enjoy. Kelham island will be buzzing next June with people travelling from all over the country.”

Earlier this year, The Sherlocks had their joint highest position in the official chart when their fifth record, Everything Must Make Sense!, reached number four, joining three of their other four albums in the top ten.

Having climbed every step of the ladder from playing intimate venues to arenas, the band are known for electrifying all-live gigs where anything can happen, and songs like Sirens, Man on The Loose, Death of Me, Live for The Moment and Chasing Shadows.

The band says their latest chart success shows hard work, and some cracking tunes can see an independent act succeed against the forces of major record labels, streaming and big media, though drummer Brandon says, as perennial underdogs, it can be like being “a football league team always up against top Premiership sides.”

Last year, The Sherlocks headlined their own festival at Don Valley Bowl. They have also previously sold out O2 Academy Sheffield and two consecutive nights at Network, while in 2017, they supported Kings Of Leon at The Utilita Arena, Sheffield, and, before that, they were the first unsigned band to sell out The Leadmill since Arctic Monkeys.

Later this month The Sherlocks will play the Sunday main stage at Tramlines, Sheffield, four years after guitarists Alex and Trent played their first live gig there in front of more than 40,000 people, and a world away from their debut on the festival’s fringe playing to a handful of fans at The Harrison 1854, Broomhall, more than 10 years ago.

They have also just finished supporting York legends Shed Seven, alongside The Lightning Seeds, at Castlefield Bowl in Manchester and, tonight (Friday 11 July), at Millenium Square in Leeds.
