Wakefield music event aimed at unity following success of regional 'rave against racism'

Love Music Hate Racism organizers have unveiled a major West Yorkshire hip hop and electronic line-up for a city centre showcase at WX Exchange this month

A volunteer community group is set to bring a major music showcase to Wakefield city centre this month in an effort to promote local diversity and foster community cohesion.

Organised by Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) Wakefield, the event takes place at WX Wakefield later this month, a venue capable of hosting a capacity of more than 2,000 people.

The upcoming city centre show builds on the blueprint of the group's previous initiative, a Rave Against Racism event held at Beaver Works in Leeds in July 2024.

That project drew national media attention, featuring in a Rolling Stone UK report examining how contemporary independent musicians are responding to regional right-wing populism.

Organisers hope the West Yorkshire hip hop and electronic line-up will bring a similar community-driven impact to Wakefield following recent periods of recurring political demonstrations in the area.

LMHR Wakefield organiser Pipa Dean said: “We are a small volunteer community group, currently organising a large music event in our city centre to celebrate the diversity of Wakefield.”

The line-up features prominent names from the regional music circuit, including headliner Jah Digga, alongside dj Paul Weston, Marc Mushington, and Blackson.

Where and when is the Wakefield LMHR event?

The event is scheduled for July 18 at WX Exchange, Wakefield, taking place from 3pm until midnight.

Full ticketing details, time slots, and the complete line-up can be found via the official WX Wakefield website.
