Armed forces charity welcomes Leeds housebuilder's helping hands

In preparation for Remembrance Sunday (9th November), a dedicated group of volunteers from Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West came together to support Veterans in Need Together (VINT).

Ahead of the remembrance ceremony, a team from the Leeds-based homebuilder ensured Morley War Memorial looked its best by litter picking and jet washing the site, with help from Barnsley Power Washing.

VINT is a non-profit organisation in Leeds, created to support local Armed Forces veterans through mental health services and community initiatives.

Adi from VINT, said: “We believe it’s important to show our community that even though we no longer serve in uniform, our commitment to service continues. This community has always supported us, and we’re proud to give back in any way we can.

“Remembrance Day is deeply emotional for us. By taking the time to clean the memorial and the surrounding area, we hope to honour those who served, past and present, and to show that their sacrifices are never forgotten.”

The volunteers’ hard work removed months of dirt, moss and weathering, restoring the monument to its former glory. Working carefully and respectfully, the volunteers honoured the memory of those who had served by preserving the place of reflection and remembrance for the whole community.

Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “It’s important to honour those who have served in our Armed Forces and the sacrifices they made. We are beyond proud to support Veterans in Need Together in its efforts to make sure the Morley War Memorial was in pristine condition for Remembrance Sunday.

“The efforts of our amazing volunteers not only improved the appearance of the memorial but also demonstrated a deep sense of gratitude and civic pride, reminding everyone of the importance of caring for such meaningful sites.”
