Celebrating the beginnings of shining careers in Otley
To mark National Apprenticeship Week (9th - 15th February), an opticians in Otley is celebrating one of their own.
Talented Caitlyn is flying the flag for the life-changing opportunities being offered by apprenticeship schemes in Otley.
To mark National Apprenticeship Week (9-15 February), 21 year-old Caitlyn is urging others to join a scheme and kickstart their career, with her own experience having put her on the road to a rewarding future.
Caitlyn began her apprenticeship at Specsavers Otley just over a year ago, starting as an Optometrist Assistant Apprentice and is set to qualify in the spring, in just a few months.
She said: "Working with Specsavers has been enjoyable and highly educational. I have the opportunity to work with colleagues and serve customers on the shop floor while fulfilling my apprenticeship hours.
"This approach offers a fast, hands-on learning experience for someone like me eager to learn quickly."
Caitlyn added: "I strongly recommend students consider an apprenticeship, especially if they’re practical learners who want the flexibility of education with the independence of work.
"The scheme provides comprehensive information, works with excellent people, and offers an affordable income. I enjoy being challenged early on, as it accelerates my learning.
"So far, I haven't encountered any issues and have received strong support from colleagues and the apprenticeship team. I love my job and look forward to advancing further."
As part of National Apprenticeship Week, a wide range of West Yorkshire organisations are announcing opportunities for young people.
Specsavers is 2025 National Apprenticeship Skills Award Winner for the Large Employer category, while having a 98% pass distinction across all of its apprentices. It also holds the Princess Royal Training Award from 2024.
Roger Copley, Director at Specsavers Otley, said: "Caitlyn has been a real asset to the store. She is confident, friendly, and naturally approachable with the public, always taking the time to make customers feel comfortable and listened to.
"I’ve seen her grow in confidence and skill since starting her role, and she continues to develop every day.
"As a store, we are proud to support her learning and progression, and we strongly believe that investing in local people not only builds stronger teams but also strengthens our connection with the community we serve."
