Leeds homelessness charity given £1,500 donation from homebuilder
St George’s Crypt, a Leeds-based charity with a near 100-year legacy of supporting people who are homeless, marginalised, and vulnerable, has received a £1,500 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.
Since establishing in 1930, St George’s Crypt has evolved from a single-site drop-in centre into a multi-site organisation, offering a comprehensive pathway out of homelessness and addiction.

The donation made by Barratt and David Wilson Homes will directly support the charity’s lunchtime health and wellbeing provision, which in winter can see up to 100 people daily using the drop-in service.
In addition to the £1,500 donation, some Barratt and David Wilson Homes staff spent a day volunteering at the charity, wrapping gifts which were given out to nearly 400 people using the lunchtime service on Christmas Day.

Karen Elden, Community Fundraiser at St George’s Crypt, said: “We were thrilled to hear that we’d been chosen to receive this donation.
"Support like this enables us to continue supporting those most in need within our community.
“We received £1,500 which will help us provide more than just a meal. Every day, we provide a safe, welcoming space where people experiencing homelessness or isolation can access nutritious food, alongside vital health and wellbeing support.
“During the lunch period, clients can speak with our support workers, connect with others, take part in informal activities that promote social interaction and reduce isolation, as well as access clean clothes, showers, personal care and healthcare.
“We’d like to send a final heartfelt thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for supporting St George’s Crypt with this generous donation, and for the team’s time offering us a helping hand. This really does mean the world to us and will help so many vulnerable people.”
The donation was made via The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is designed to support national and local charities, large and small, across the UK to leave a legacy in the communities in which the housebuilder operates.
Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “We’re really proud of the team who volunteered at the charity, and are delighted to be able to offer St George’s Crypt a donation to support the fantastic work it does.
“We hope this donation can help the charity in its mission, whilst letting its hardworking team know that their work is both recognised and appreciated.”
