Louise raises over £3500 for Yorkshire charities with her ‘50in20’ challenge

An office worker has raised over £3500 for charity after walking 50 miles from her Huddersfield workplace to Wakefield Trinity stadium and back.

Louise Davison created this challenge of 50 miles in 20 hours to mark the 50th anniversary of Farrar Bamforth – the architectural practice she works – and the 20th anniversary of the Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation – the charitable arm of Wakefield Trinity Rugby League Club who Farrar Bamforth has supported for many years.

Louise said: “I wanted to do something this year that would really test me physically and mentally and these two anniversaries seemed like the perfect premise to build something around.

"I created a 25 mile route to the Wakefield Trinity ground from the Farrar Bamforth studio in Huddersfield town centre so it could provide the perfect halfway point, and I also turned 52 this year so it was all serendipitous!”

Louise wanted to raise funds for Wakefield Trinity Community Foundation (WTCF) because of its close ties to Farrar Bamforth and the brilliant work it does in the community.

She also wanted to support the Rob Burrow Centre for MND through Leeds Hospitals Charity, having lost a close family member to MND in 2022. Sponsors were offered the option to support either and many donated to both.

She smashed the challenge, returning to Huddersfield just 18 hours after setting off that morning – well within her target. To date, she has raised £2,525 for Leeds Hospitals Charity and £1,021 for WTCF – a total of £3547.00!

Last week, Louise was invited to take a tour of the MND centre, which is located at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds.

She said: “It’s so wonderful to see the work they’re doing at the MND centre and very moving to see the Burrows family’s handprints as a homage to Rob Burrow who has moved so many people to support this important work.

"I know this donation will make a huge difference to the charity, and I’m delighted to have played my part.”

Louise is due to attend a supporters’ lunch at Wakefield Trinity later this year to speak about the challenge and present them with their donation.
