New chapter at Pontefract primary school following homebuilder's donation
In line with World Book Day (Thursday March 5), leading homebuilder Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated a selection of brand-new children’s books to Carleton Infant and Junior School in Pontefract, supporting an initiative designed to reward positive pupil behaviour.
The donation will stock the school’s book vending machine, which allows pupils to choose a new book to keep as a reward for demonstrating good behaviour, effort and attitude in school. The scheme aims to promote a love of reading while positively reinforcing good choices among pupils.

World Book Day is celebrated to inspire a love of reading among children and young people. Its mission is to promote reading for pleasure and support learning and education for children of all ages, helping to nurture imagination, creativity and lifelong literacy skills.
The books from Barratt and David Wilson Homes includes novels from Roald Dahl and Dav Pilky, and will help ensure the machine remains well-stocked with a variety of engaging titles suitable for different ages and reading levels.

Sarah Webster, Office Manager at Carleton Park Infant and Junior School, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for this wonderful donation.
"The book vending machine is a brilliant way to reward positive behaviour while nurturing a genuine love of reading. Giving our pupils the chance to choose and keep their own brand-new books makes reading even more special and inspiring for them"
Carleton Park Infant and Junior School is located close by to David Wilson Homes’ brand-new development in Pontefract, Castle Syke Grange.
Barratt Homes is also soon to be launching two developments in Pontefract, Sandy Gate View and De Lacy Mews.
Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “It was a pleasure to donate these books to Carleton Park Infant and Junior School.
