Normanton youth and community charity aided by West Yorkshire homebuilder

The Well Project, a Normanton-based charity that provides the wider community with access to youth clubs, a foodbank and many other vital services, has received further volunteering support from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

The charity began operating in 2007 from the back of a minibus in response to the growing concerns about anti-social behaviour among young people in the town.

Now based at a permanent site at Haw Hill Park, The Well Project hosts a wide range of community support groups and initiatives like its ‘Meet n Eats Diner’, a place where people can enjoy a home-cooked, three course meal to help combat social isolation. Everything the charity do is free of charge.

Members of the housebuilder’s Commercial and Customer Care teams recently spent time volunteering at the charity, helping to set up, prepare food and run the ‘Meet n Eats Diner’. They also took part in the dinner, lending a listening ear to service users, providing company and learning more about their lives.

The developer has volunteered at the charity several times in recent months, including supporting at the charity’s shop, The Well Loved Shop, and provided helping hands at The Well Project’s foodbank.

Michelle Newton, Community Project Co-ordinator at The Well Project, said: “We are very grateful to the team at Barratt and David Wilson Homes for giving their time to support our charity as part of their CSR commitment.

“The volunteers have rolled up their sleeves across our sessions including the Meet n Eat's Diner, Normanton Foodbank and at our charity shop - The Well Loved Shop, helping us to provide vital support to local people in need.

“For a small charity like The Well Project, support like this makes a great difference, not just practically, but by showing our community that local businesses care and want support us. We have loved having the volunteers help out and really appreciate their enthusiasm and hard work.”

The charity also offers a range of youth clubs, including a dance club, to help keep young people off the streets.

Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “We are incredibly proud of our team for giving up their time to help this fantastic charity.

"The Well Project is a vital initiative for the West Yorkshire community and we hope that our continued support helps to make a difference.”
