Taylor Wimpey donates life-saving defibrillator in Altofts

Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire has donated a public access defibrillator (PAD) to The Brig, a charity-run community venue in Altofts.

As part of a joint initiative with the British Heart Foundation (BHF), the homebuilder is donating potentially life-saving PADs to communities around the UK.

The Brig is owned and managed by Altofts Community and Sports Foundation with the aim of promoting and facilitating health, social and community-based opportunities for all residents in the wider Altofts area.

The defibrillator will be located inside the The Brig, in St Mary’s Road, helping to provide vital support in the event of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

The Brig regularly hosts fitness classes, sports groups, village groups, private parties, business meetings, and weddings. It is also home to The Brigeteers, a club which supports people with severe mental or physical challenges. The venue also houses The Bar At The Brig, a wholly-owned subsidiary company of the charity.

The housebuilder is currently building in the village at Frobisher Meadows, in Station Road, which will deliver a mix of apartments, bungalows and houses ranging from two- to four-bedrooms, including 41 homes designated as affordable.

Sam Evans, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: “Our partnership with the BHF is vitally important in helping to ensure that more defibrillators are available for people who might need them. We are pleased to have made this donation to The Brig.”

Estelle Stephenson, Head of Health Partnerships and Community Resuscitation at the British Heart Foundation, said: “Every second counts when someone has a cardiac arrest, and we know that prompt CPR and defibrillation can double the chances of survival in some cases. Increasing the number of accessible defibrillators in our communities – alongside more of us learning CPR skills – can play a vital role in these critical moments.

"That is why we are delighted that Taylor Wimpey has contributed to the aims of the BHF by making a public access defibrillator available at The Brig as part of their wider local campaign. It could help save a life.”

David Norris, spokesperson for The Brig, said: “We can’t thank Taylor Wimpey enough for this donation. While we hope that we don’t have to use it, it’s reassuring to know that we can access a defibrillator in the event of an emergency and hopefully help to save someone’s life.”
