Thanks to match-funding from Prosper, the independent grant making organisation, 15 beneficiaries including Levi’s Star, Theatre Royal Wakefield, National Coal Mining Museum, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Cross Project, St Georges Lupset, Cyclists Fighting Cancer, Seaglass Collective, Give a Duck Foundation, Homestart, Stepping Stones Baby Bank, Small Steps Uniform Bank, Normanton School Uniform Exchange, Bless and My Burns Club will now receive funds to be used to support young people throughout the Wakefield district.

With deprivation figures showing that 26.6 per cent of children in Wakefield live in poverty, the efforts of everyone involved, including businesses across the region that supported the event, can be used to ensure positive interventions are made where needed most.

Chair of the WACCL committee, Pat Langham, comments: “We would like to thank everyone that came along to this year’s WACCL.

"Not only was it a great event, with delicious food, drink, and entertainment, but it was also a chance to contribute to some wonderful causes.

“These funds will make a huge difference to the organisations that we engage with, all of whom are dedicated to supporting young people from the Wakefield district.

“We would also like to thank Prosper. Without the partnership in place, we simply couldn’t secure the funds that allow us to work with so many beneficiaries.”

Chief Executive Officer at Prosper Wakefield District, Kath Lindley, said: “Once again we have shown what can be achieved when we work together.

"We are so pleased that we were able to support WACCL 2025 and collectively achieve the £50k target that we had in place.

“These funds make a life-changing difference to young people and meeting with some of the beneficiaries during the WACCL lunch really put this into perspective. I’d like to thank everyone that took the time to come along and to contribute.”

Taking place at Wakefield Trinity for a second year, WACCL welcomed more than 250 guests during the event in December. T

hose attending enjoyed a complimentary glass of fizz, three-course lunch, entertainment, games, a raffle, and an auction.
