Yeadon care home residents’ team up with community for matchday magic

Football fever has officially kicked off at a care home in Yeadon as residents welcomed the local community for a day of sporting and summer fun.

Care UK’s Weavers Court, on Naylor Avenue, teamed up with friends, family and guests from the local community to take part in their football-themed fair and join the nation in celebrating the huge summer of sport.

Fair goers were also delighted to be joined by special guests from local club, Leeds United, in the form of their mascot, Lucas the Kop Kat, and former player, Noel Whelan.

To truly bring the fair to life, visitors and residents were able to browse and shop on the home’s very own Market Street, where a variety of stalls were open to the community, such as the popular ‘design your own team strip’ stall and a face painting stall.

Mary Brummit, resident at Weavers Court, said: “The whole day was thoroughly enjoyable, with a wonderful mix of music that kept everyone entertained from start to finish. Everyone involved was so enthusiastic, which made the day even more special!”

The event was part of Care UK’s ‘Goal-den Moments' initiative, which aims to bring generations together, encouraging residents to reminisce about cherished football memories with the local community and create new memories together.

Sarah Kunica, Home Manager at Weavers Court, said: “Since we first opened the doors of our care home, we’ve been looking for ways to connect with Yeadon residents, particularly through engaging and meaningful experiences – this event has done just that.

“Football has the unique ability to unlock memories and bring generations together, and it’s been wonderful to see residents sharing their stories and enthusiasm with younger members of the community.

“We’re proud to play a part in bringing people together and strengthening those important community connections.”
