Youth And Community Charity Receives Helping Hands From West Yorkshire Homebuilder

The Well Project, a Normanton-based charity that provides the wider community with access to youth clubs, a foodbank and many other vital services, has received volunteering support from Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

The charity began operating in 2007 from the back of a minibus as a response to the growing concerns about anti-social behaviour amongst young people in the town.

Now based in a permanent site at Haw Hill Park, The Well Project hosts a wide range of community support groups and initiatives like its ‘Meet n Eats Diner’, a place where people can enjoy a home-cooked, three course meal to help combat social isolation.

Belinda and Jess from the housebuilder’s sales team recently spent time volunteering at the charity, helping them set up, prepare food and run a Meet n Eats Diner. They also took part in the dinner, providing company for the service users and learning more about their lives.

This is the first of a number of volunteering activities Barratt and David Wilson Homes will be taking part in to support the charity, as it is soon to be helping with the charity’s shop, as well as working in the foodbank near Christmas.

Michelle Newton, Community Project Co-ordinator at The Well Project, said: “The Well Project relies on the help from our volunteers and those that wish to spend their CSR hours with us to be able to provide the services we offer in our community.

“Volunteers from Barratt and David Wilson Homes are helping out over the next few months, at the Meet n Eats Diner, The Well Loved Shop and of course, the Normanton Foodbank offering time, energy and compassion, making a real lasting difference.

“Belinda and Jess were a great help at the diner and our customers really enjoyed chatting to them - we hope to welcome them back soon. We look forward to welcoming more volunteers and hope they enjoy their time with us. Thanks to the support from Barratt and David Wilson Homes, we can reach and help more people, continuing to build a stronger, more resilient community.”

The charity also offers a range of youth clubs, including a dance club, to help keep young people off the streets.

Gavin Birch, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West, said: “We take pride in supporting the communities around our developments, and we are thrilled to offer The Well Project a helping hand to support its important work.

“We’re proud of Belinda and Jess for giving up their time, and we look forward to continuing our support for this great charity over the coming months.”

The charity is located near David Wilson Homes’ recently launched Castle Syke Grange development. Barratt Homes is also set to launch brand-new developments in Pontefract later this year, expanding the options available for new home buyers.
