Finding Your Tribe: The complete guide to Leeds University Union Societies and how to join

Stepping onto campus for Freshers Week can feel overwhelming, but joining a student society is the fastest way to turn a massive university into your personal community.

Be it continuing a lifelong sport, picking up a niche new hobby, exploring your academic discipline outside the lecture hall, or connecting with people who share your cultural background or faith, there is a space already built for you.

Getting involved couldn't be simpler, either.

Just head down to the Union during Freshers Week to meet society committees in person, ask questions, and even sign up for taster sessions.

You don’t even have to wait for the fair; visit the Leeds University Union website at any time, log in with your student credentials, browse the full directory, and purchase your memberships directly online.

Most of the societies listed run a GIAG (”Give It A Go”) session during the first few weeks of term, letting you test out a meeting, rehearsal or training session for free or at a low cost before committing to a full membership.

To help you navigate the hundreds of groups on offer, here is a complete breakdown of societies you can join at Leeds this year.
