Amidst the businesses we’ve lost and stories of hardship, we’ve celebrated dozens of fantastic new openings across the city in 2025.
From neighbourhood cafes expanding into the city centre and an independent bakery launching its biggest venture yet, to two Leeds pub giants collaborating to lovingly restore a historic boozer, these new restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars have all got us talking this year.
Here are 25 of the most exciting new openings of 2025 - that have changed our city’s food and drink scene for the better.

7. NoNo Wine Bar
This new wine bar from top merchant Barrique Fine Wine opened in March. Nestled within the Dark Arches, it took over the former La Casita site - offering unique food pairings with a carefully curated wine list that you can browse on an iPad. Bookings are essential at the weekend, showing the popularity of this cosy wine bar. | Jonathan Gawthorpe

8. Giggling Squid
April was a busy month for new openings, including the award-winning 'Thai tapas' restaurant chain Giggling Squid, which opened its 53rd branch in the former Royal Bank of Scotland building on Park Row. Its striking interior, designed by Pranee, includes opulent floral wallpapers and banquette seating. | Giggling Squid

9. The Highland Laddie
This Leeds pub was named Britain's best in The Good Food Guide just months after reopening in April. It’s a remarkable achievement for the historic pub on Cavendish Street, which has been an instant success since being taken over by the team behind The Empire Café - arguably the most notable new opening this year. | Jonathan Gawthorpe

10. Coffee Boy
April also saw the arrival of Coffee Boy, a “fresh and funky” coffee shop located in The Light. The fast-growing chain - which already had venues in Castleford, Barnsley and Huddersfield - boasts plush seating and colourful finishes, and promises “quality food and drink at affordable prices”. | Jonathan Gawthorpe

11. Brew+Bao
A brand new hotspot for Asian street food and craft ales, Brew+Bao opened in Chapel Allerton over the Easter bank holiday. The debut venue for the Brew+ brand introduced itself to the neighbourhood in style with its colourful menu, packed with bold flavours paired with craft and premium beers, wines, spirits and cocktails. | James Hardisty

12. The Banksia
Hotel Indigo opened its doors in Lower Briggate in July, alongside the exciting Mediterranean-inspired bar and restaurant The Banksia. Inspired by the Banksia flower, the name and interiors symbolise rebirth and new beginnings, and the restaurant’s identity is steeped in the sun-soaked flavours of countries like Turkey with a menu built for sharing - or for the indecisive diner who wants a taste of everything. | Yorkshire Evening Post
