A hotel in Leeds was evacuated overnight as firefighters rushed to a ‘laundry basket fire’.
Fire crews from Leeds and other parts of West Yorkshire were called to Gower Street just after midnight today (April 20). The cause of the blaze was discovered to be a laundry basket on fire.
A fan was used to clear smoke from the building. Staff and guests were evacuated after the fire alarm went off.
In an update on its website, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Fire engines from Leeds, Killingbeck and Hunslet fire stations and an aerial appliance from Bradford responded to the report of a fire on the ground floor of a hotel.
“On arrival firefighters confirmed this was a laundry basket on fire in the kitchen area and used 4 breathing apparatus and 2 hose reels to extinguish the fire, and a high-power ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the building.
“The fire alarm had alerted staff and a full building evacuation was carried out.”
