Leeds White Rose shopping centre explains why it was ‘evacuated’ today
A “routine” fire-drill saw customers and staff evacuated from a popular mall in Leeds this morning.
Footage on social media showed tape being put up outside the White Rose Shopping Centre with a warning not to enter at this time. However, it turned out to be a planned exercise.
Taking to social media, the mall’s official account explained: “A planned fire evacuation drill was held at the centre today. As part of our rigorous health and safety strategy, we routinely undertake such measures to ensure the highest possible standard of care for staff, guests and retailers.
“Few of the centre's employees are pre-warned of drills to ensure an accurate measure of the centre's preparedness for such an event. Evacuation drills are measured against specific criteria to ensure exceptionally high standards and continuous improvement.
The White Rose Shopping Centre is located in South Leeds. It has re-opened as normal service resumes.
