The property was first put under the hammer in January with a £200,000 guide price, but failed to sell.

It returned as a lot at an online property auction held by BTG Eddisons last week. This time the guide price had been reduced to £160,000.

The property eventually sold for £175,000.

But despite the sale, there is not likely to be any immediate change to the building – home to a Post Office – as the current tenants have a six-year lease that only began in November.

It brings in an annual rent of £11,385.

The building was made famous by its long-standing appearance in Emmerdale.

Much of the soap used to be filmed on location in the village.

The village remained the home of the show until 1998, when filming moved to a set on the Harewood estate.

Referring to the soap – the auction listing said: “The property is well-known to millions of viewers of Emmerdale for its long-running appearance as the village post-office, offering tourism appeal as a result.”

The identity of the buyer has not been revealed.
