M62 accident: Drivers face ‘severe’ delays after lorry ‘spillage’ on M62 between Manchester and Leeds

A ‘spillage’ is continuing to cause traffic disruption on the M62 heading into rush hour.

Drivers heading eastbound on the motorway towards Leeds are facing ‘severe’ delays. One lane remains closed as commuters prepare to head home this evening (April 1).

AA Traffic Map is warning of ‘slow traffic’ due to a ‘shed load’ following an accident earlier in the day. Motorists face the prospect of being caught in long queues over the coming hours.

Highways England is currently estimating that issues will continue through to 6.30pm - but that could increase. One lane out of three is shut on the eastbound side of the M62 at junction 25.

On its traffic map, AA adds: “Slow traffic and one lane closed due to shed load on M62 Eastbound at J25 A644 Wakefield Road (Brighouse). In lane one (of three).”

It continues: “Severe delays of 13 minutes and delays increasing on M62 Eastbound between J23 A640 New Hey Road (Huddersfield) and J25 A644 Wakefield Road (Brighouse). Average speed 15 mph.”

The issue was first reported on the AA Traffic map just before 7.30am and the issue continues.
