People heading to Leeds Festival next week are being warned of a ‘risk of thunder’ in a first look forecast.
Tens of thousands of music lovers will be flocking to Bramham Park to see the likes of Charli XCX, Dave, Raye, Chase & Status, Florence and the Machine, and Fontaines D.C. The start of the festival might still be more than a week away, but you might already be wondering what the weather will have in store.
After a summer of heatwaves and scorching temperatures, it has taken a slightly cooler turn in recent days. Amid Leeds being moved a step closer to being declared in a drought, rain has made a much-welcome return.
Further downpours are currently predicted for later in the week, including on GCSE results day this Thursday (August 20). The temperatures are also set to dip back below 20C from tomorrow (August 19).

The Met Office currently has a firm forecast through to Monday (August 24) and will issue its specific verdict for each day at Leeds Festival further down the line. However, it does also have a broad long range forecast from August 22 to August 31, which covers the full event.
On its website, the forecast predicts: “This period is likely to start largely dry and settled across the UK, as a ridge of high pressure sets in. A few showers are likely in the far north and possibly the far southeast though.
“Conditions look like turning increasingly unsettled through next week, as low pressure gradually becomes dominant, squeezing the ridge off to the northeast and southwest. Most places are likely to see some rain or showers, which may be heavy with a risk of thunder at times.
“It may become breezy if not windy at times too. Temperatures are likely to be near or a little below normal overall, with some chilly nights at first, but brief warm, humid spells are possible at times, especially in the south.”
Festivalgoers will start to arrive at Bramham Park from Wednesday, August 26 with the major acts due to perform between Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30. The festival will then wrap up on Monday, August 31, as the rest of the city enjoys the final Bank Holiday before Christmas.
