Holbeck and Hunslet - separated by just four miles - are the focus of this trip down memory lane which rewinds to the 1940s. The 15 photos showcase well-travelled streets and feature local landmarks and foster a sense of grime and dirt at the heart of the community. The images are a mix from West Yorkshire Archive Service and others published courtesy of photographic archive Leodis, which is run by Leeds Library & Information Service. 13. Hunslet
Inside the Public Bath House South Brook Street in October 1942. It is difficult to tell from the view of this internal room at the bath house exactly what its function was. There are two stools in a sunken bath type enclosure above which is a tap filled cystern with two rubber hoses. A rail runs the length of the room and it holds what appear to be curtain rings. | Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net Photo: Leeds Libraries, www.leodis.net
