'The right way' - Alan Shearer hails Leeds United star after late Fulham win
Leeds United claimed a late home win against Premier League rivals Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
There was late drama in a Premier League fixture between Leeds United and Fulham for the second time this season after the Whites snatched a last-gasp win against the Cottagers at Elland Road.
Just over four months have passed since a 94th minute own goal from Whites defender Gabriel Gudmundsson condemned his side to an agonising defeat in the reverse fixture at Craven Cottage - but Daniel Farke’s men came out on the right side of a late goal on Saturday afternoon.
Despite both sides creating opportunities to open the scoring, the deadlock remained in place as second half injury-time approached - but it was the Whites that secured yet another positive result on their home patch thanks to a last-gasp winner from substitute Lukas Nmecha. The seven-times capped Germany international made the most of a fine cross from Ethan Ampadu by forcing a volley beyond Cottagers goalkeeper Bernd Leno to set off wild celebrations from the vast majority inside Elland Road and earn praise from Premier League legend Alan Shearer.
Speaking on Match of the Day, the former Newcastle United and England captain said: “They work it really well, they get it into that corner there, and they put a fantastic ball in, gives and goes Ampadu, and then he whips a great ball in, but watch Nmecha’s movement, that is a clinical finish. Fantastic to get himself ahead of the defender and then put it in the back of the net and got his team three points.”
“When you’ve got nine minutes and the manager is putting you on, he’s putting you on to affect the game in the right way. I know we’ve had a laugh about his touches, but he’s certainly done that and the three points he’s earned them.”
What did Daniel Farke say about Leeds United’s late win against Fulham?

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Whites boss said: "I was hoping [the win was there for the taking] but it was difficult. Normally clean sheet and draw against Fulham is also not a bad result. Ilia's [Gruev] defensive awareness was crucial today. Jayden [Bogle] interpreted his role in a really good way, first game back after injury. To take them off and bring another striker on and a creative midfield player, I had my doubts. It was quite risky. But the gut feeling is we wanted to go for it and to send the message, although we have missed chances, we will be rock solid and we'll score this goal we need. That Lukas is in the spotlight and scored in a fantastic manner is fantastic."
