Brentford vs Leeds United recap with highlights and Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal
Leeds United face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium this afternoon.
Leeds United are back on the road this afternoon with a tricky trip to Brentford on the cards. Daniel Farke’s side head to the Gtech Community Stadium having enjoyed a great week back home with four points taken from meetings with Chelsea and Liverpool.
The Whites beat Chelsea 3-1 before a dramatic 3-3 draw against Liverpool saw them climb into 16th place. That could change before kick-off in London but a point or three would keep them above the relegation zone for another week at least.
A result will not come easy, however, with Brentford’s home form bettered only by the Premier League’s current top three. Keith Andrew’s side have won their last three at the Gtech Community Stadium, getting the better of Liverpool, Newcastle United and Burnley in the process.
Speaking earlier this week, Whites boss Farke revealed he will be without Lukas Nmecha for a second game running due to a hamstring injury picked up in last week’s win over Chelsea. Longer-term absentees Daniel James (hamstring tendon) and Sean Longstaff (calf) are also sidelined.
Hosts Brentford will have to navigate this afternoon without German forward Kevin Schade, who is suspended, while Fabio Carvalho and Antoni Milambo are injured. On-loan Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson could be back in the squad after recovering from a knock.
Nmecha’s continued absence could be enough for Farke to think about switching formation at Brentford, having gone with a back-three twice since changing it up at Manchester City. The Whites boss could also keep what’s working and start Noah Okafor alongside the in-form Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
As ever, the YEP will have all your usual build-up ahead of kick-off, with team news at around 3.15pm and minute-by-minute coverage once the game gets underway. Chief football writer Graham Smyth will be at the Gtech Community Stadium with player ratings and manager reaction to follow the final whistle.
