'Really poor' - Leeds United insider hammers Brentford
Leeds United “showed character” to come from a goal down to secure a draw away at Brentford in the Premier League last weekend.
Leeds United’s improving form continued on the road last weekend as Dominic Calvert-Lewin was among the goals again to help his side to a point on the road. Brentford is not an easy place to visit, and Daniel Farke’s side were arguably the more impressive side on the day, and would have been worthy of all three points.
Yorkshire Evening Post’s Chief Football Writer Graham Smyth believes the away side ‘showed character; and a point is a decent return against a Brentford side who have been solid at the Gtech Community Stadium so far this season.
Keith Andrews’ side have only lost once in the league this season and that was against Manchester City. Before the Leeds game, their home record was played seven, won five, drew one and lost one, which puts into perspective how well Leeds played.
Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast, Smyth said: “I am again happy with 1-1. And I think it's a good result, isn't it? It's a good result. It is a good result, particularly with their home form. You know, we talked about how good they are at home and the teams they've beaten at home. I think their only defeat was Man City, wasn't it? And particularly with our away form and our London record. It is a good point.
“I just feel on the balance of the game, I thought they were really poor, Brentford. I thought they looked a bit like, you know, you get a Championship side in the cup, and they huff and puff a bit, but I just didn't think they looked like a good side at all. But, you know, from 1-0 down, I think a lot of Leeds fans are maybe, with some of the away performances this season we've had, probably feared that we might just lose that game 1-0 and not create much. So, it showed a lot of character. So yeah, the way it went, it was a good point.”
‘Leeds deserved to win’
Smyth also discussed who he thought deserved to win the game if it wasn't a draw and his thoughts on Farke’s changing system.
“I thought if anyone deserved to win it, it was Leeds,” Smyth said. “Yeah, I like the fact that he stuck with the system. I also find it quite funny that he then changed the system, and they once again got a result because of it. But I still like them setting up to start with that two up front. I feel like it asks the teams a lot of questions.”
