Brentford absence confirmed for Leeds United clash due to Premier League suspension rule

Leeds United head to the Gtech Community Stadium next weekend after facing Liverpool this evening.

Brentford forward Kevin Schade will be forced to miss his side’s game against Leeds United next weekend through suspension.

Schade was shown a yellow card in the second half of Brentford’s 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon. The German forward was cautioned for a foul on Spurs goalscorer Xavi Simons and has now accumulated five Premier League bookings.

FA suspension rules state any player who accumulates five yellow cards before the end of their team’s 19th Premier League game will serve an automatic one-match ban. After the midway point of the campaign that threshold increases to 10 bookings, with the punishment also increasing to two games.

Schade had been on four yellow cards since early November and after escaping further punishment for a month, picked up that crucial fifth booking on Saturday. He will therefore be forced to serve a one-game ban when Brentford host Leeds next weekend.

The 24-year-old will be a big miss for Brentford, having registered three goals and one assist in 15 Premier League appearances. Only 11-goal top-scorer Igor Thiago has been directly involved in more goals for Keith Andrews’ side this season.

Schade has tended to make up part of a dangerous Brentford front three, with Dango Ouattara on the other wing and Thiago upfront. In the German’s absence next weekend, Keane Lewis-Potter could play or central attacking midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard could be moved out wide.

Brentford centre-back Nathan Collins has also been on four yellow cards since early November but unlike Schade, managed to escape a crucial caution in Saturday’s defeat at Spurs. He will therefore be eligible to feature when Leeds head to the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

Ethan Ampadu remains a suspension risk for next weekend’s trip, with the midfielder heading into this evening’s Premier League game against Liverpool on four yellow cards. He is the only Leeds player walking that suspension tightrope, with Jayden Bogle on three bookings and a host of players including Anton Stach and Pascal Struijk on two.
