Statement released as Burnley confirm huge Scott Parker decision ahead of Leeds United clash
Leeds United welcome the already-relegated Clarets to Elland Road on Friday night.
Burnley have confirmed the departure of manager Scott Parker just one day before their trip to Leeds United.
The Clarets head to Elland Road on Friday evening having already been relegated. Their return to the Championship was confirmed last week, following a 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester City.
Parker earned promotion to the Championship with Burnley last season, racking up 100 points and losing out on the title to Leeds on goal difference. But he won just four of his 34 Premier League games, one of which came against Farke’s side back in October.
Assistant coach Mike Jackson will take interim charge of the Clarets on at Elland Road and for the three remaining games afterwards. Leeds know a win will virtually guarantee their Premier League safety.
A statement from Burnley read: “Scott Parker has left his position as Head Coach of Burnley Football Club by mutual consent. Following confirmation of the Club's relegation from the Premier League last week, Parker and the Board held discussions and mutually agreed that his time at Turf Moor would conclude.
“During his tenure at Turf Moor, Parker guided the Clarets to a record-breaking season in the 2024/25 campaign, securing Burnley promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, with a 31-match unbeaten run, keeping a remarkable 30 clean sheets. The Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Scott for his professionalism, dedication and contribution. He leaves with the respect and gratitude of everyone connected with Burnley Football Club.
“Mike Jackson, supported by the existing backroom staff, will take interim charge for the Clarets' remaining four Premier League fixtures, beginning with Friday's match away to Leeds United. The process of appointing a new permanent Head Coach ahead of the 2026/27 season has begun.”
Friday will now be the second consecutive game in which Leeds have faced an interim boss. The Whites were preparing to face Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final before he was sacked last Wednesday following a 3-0 defeat at Brighton.
Calum McFarlane took temporary charge of the London side for Sunday’s Wembley trip, guiding them to a 1-0 win over a below-par Leeds outfit. The Whites also faced an interim boss at Manchester United earlier this month, winning 2-1 against temporary boss Michael Carrick.
