Crystal Palace vs Leeds United: Live commentary as Calvert-Lewin misses a penalty and Gudmundsson sent off
Leeds United take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in another massive Premier League clash this afternoon.
Leeds United return to Premier League action this afternoon when they face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Daniel Farke’s side bounced back from consecutive home defeats to beat Norwich City 3-0 in the FA Cup last time out and will hope to rebuild momentum following that win.
Three points separate Leeds and 18th-placed Nottingham Forest, with West Ham climbing out of the relegation zone thanks to their 1-1 draw at home to Manchester City on Saturday evening. That means the Whites now have a chance to extend their lead on the drop zone, having seen it swiftly cut in half last week.
Speaking on Friday, Leeds boss Farke revealed he is unlikely to have Noah Okafor available this weekend due to a hip problem. The Swiss winger had returned to training earlier in the week but reported the issue afterwards, with an extension of his current four-game absence looking likely.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin also returned to training following a minor knee issue, with Farke ‘cautiously optimistic’ of having his top goalscorer available at Selhurst Park. The 28-year-old himself admitted this week he is fit and ready to go after a precautionary absence against Norwich.
Apart from that, the Leeds squad is in relatively good health with Joe Rodon given the day off last weekend while several others watched on from the bench. A convincing victory over Norwich also saw the likes of Jaka Bijol and Willy Gnonto ask questions of Farke regarding more potential game time.
Crystal Palace team news ahead of Leeds United visit
As for the home side, wing-back Daniel Munoz faces a late fitness test while striker Jean-Philippe Mateta continued to be managed carefully on his return from injury. Former Leeds loanee Eddie Nketiah is out with January Whites target Jorgen Strand Larsen expected to start.
Palace were in Europa Conference League action on Thursday, drawing 0-0 at home to Cypriot outfit AEK Larnaca in their last-16 first-leg tie. Oliver Glasner could therefore be tempted to rotate a little ahead of next week’s second-leg away from home.
That Thursday-evening stalemate is why Leeds’ trip to Palace was pushed back to Sunday but with two more Premier League games kicking off at the same time, an unusual TV selection decision has been made for the Selhurst Park clash. Fans will also have a keen eye on another 2pm game, with relegation rivals Nottingham Forest hosting Fulham.
Crystal Palace vs Leeds United kicks off at 2pm. Stay tuned for build-up, team news and live commentary once the action gets underway at Selhurst Park...
