Leeds United Elland Road expansion latest as new footage shows latest development works
A video update has emerged surrounding Leeds United's summer work on Elland Road.
A fresh update on Leeds United’s Elland Road expansion has emerged in the form of drone footage.
The club have wasted no time getting to work following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign, with plans to eventually increase the capacity of Elland Road to 53,000. That will arrive via the development of the North and West Stands and is hoped to be fully complete by 2030.
Immediate focus has turned to the West Stand with a video from YouTube channel CC Overview, which specialises in stadium expansions and environmental issues, showing work was underway at the end of May. And new footage has provided an update on those works as of Tuesday, June 9.
Footage uploaded late last month showed the removal of Portakabins that housed away teams on their visits to Elland Road, while there was a partial demolition of the ticket office. That ticket office has now gone completely, while there has been more progress on the banqueting suite at the rear of the West Stand.
Around a third of the external structure outside the West Stand has been demolished, with the drone camera even able to zoom in and look at what was inside of the building. The away fans tunnel in that same area has also been knocked down.
There has also been progress in the construction of a temporary structure behind the North Stand, which work got underway towards the end of the season. The building is expected to host corporate facilities during the expansion works.
Work is also underway inside the stadium, with the new footage appearing to show the turf had been removed from the pitch ahead of it being prepared for next season. There was also some activity around the West Stand technical areas, with dugouts removed and a screen put up around the area.
Work on the pitch and dugouts will be complete in time for next season but as expansion plans continue right through the 2026/27 campaign, chairman Paraag Marathe admitted there will be some disruption. He said: “The ticket office is gone. I know where we are up in the chairman's area, there's going to be some disruptions as well. I think that it's all by design because we're trying not to compromise or sacrifice seats during games during the season.
"It's all being done over a sort of a longer period of time so that we keep as many fans in their seats during matches. So there will be disruptions and probably some annoyances and hopefully everybody can just bear with us as we get through."
