Leeds United exit opens up on transfer decision with 'best signing' admission

Leeds United sanctioned a permanent exit for out-of-favour winger Jack Harrison last month.

Leeds United summer exit Jack Harrison believes a move to MLS side New England Revolution is the best transfer of his career.

Harrison secured a permanent switch to the Revolution last month for an undisclosed fee. The winger spent eight years at Leeds but much of his recent career has been spent out on loan.

The 29-year-old was among several players to exercise a loan exit clause following Leeds’ relegation in 2023, spending two years at Everton. He was unable to break into Daniel Farke’s squad last season and joined Fiorentina in January.

A move to the MLS had been on the cards for some time, with Harrison moving to New England as a 14-year-old to pursue his football dream. Upon signing, he was unveiled in front of 34,000 fans at the Gillette Stadium.

“The fans were incredible,” Harrison said of the introduction. “I've never been recognised on the field like that before. I said to my agent the other day that this has been the best signing that I've done in my career so far.”

Harrison has the USA to thank for his footballing career, initially moving to New England before joining New York City in 2016. Sister club Manchester City snapped him up two years later and after a brief spell at Middlesbrough, he joined Leeds on loan for the 2018/19 campaign - the first of three season-long switches.

“Being here at Berkshire School and everything, and having a lot of friends in this area, it definitely feels like a homecoming,” he added. “I spent my formative years here.

“I really think that time period helped to define who I am today. I have always been grateful for that opportunity and loved every second of it. It wasn't easy leaving England at that moment in time, but I look back now and I have no regrets at all.

“What it's given me in life has been more than anything I could ask for, anything that I could have imagined. I've always felt at home here in the U.S.”
