418-game ex-Leeds United pair to enter iconic Red Bull event alongside Everton & Newcastle rivals
Leeds United are set to be one of six Premier League teams entering the event.
Two Leeds United legends with over 400 club appearances between them are set to take control of a giant Peacock later this month.
Leeds have confirmed they will take part in the iconic Red Bull Soapbox Race this year, to be held at Alexandra Palace in London on June 20. The event tasks teams with building homemade vehicles to navigate the downhill course, with some eye-catching designs on show.
Hailing from Elland Road is a giant peacock-inspired vehicle, complete with current and retro club badges. Alongside the shield crest, wheels are decked out in the peacock badge on shirts between 1980 and 1984, which then-chairman Leslie Silver deemed unlucky as it coincided with relegation.
Hoping there will be no misfortune this time round are Jermaine Beckford and Stuart Dallas, the pair tasked with getting the peacock soapbox down the London course without issue. The striker and midfielder boast 418 Leeds appearances across all competitions between them and remain much-loved figures around Elland Road.
Leeds will have some Premier League competition too, with five of their top-flight rivals entering teams. Alongside the Whites will be Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham and Newcastle United.
Red Bull have held a minority stake in Leeds since the end of the 2023/24 campaign in which Daniel Farke’s side suffered Championship play-off final defeat to Southampton. The Austrian energy drinks company also became front-of-shirt sponsor in a record-breaking commercial deal for the second-tier.
They remained on the front of Leeds shirts during last season’s 14th-place Premier League finish and will do so again for the 2026/27 campaign. Concerns have been raised regarding the company’s takeover of other clubs but fans have been reassured there are no plans to make changes to the badge, name or stadium.
The Red Bull Soapbox race was first staged in Belgium in 2000 and has since grown into a global event. Entrants are tasked with navigating the downhill course which includes tight turns, obstacles and jumps which can often lead to funny crashes. Beckford and Dallas will be hoping for a smooth ride.
