Leeds United standout handed 8.5/10 rating and Man of the Match after scoring in win

It was another positive showing from the Leeds United new-boy.

Leeds United defender Tarik Muharemovic produced a standout display to help Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Romania 4-2 on Monday night.

Muharemovic played the full 90 minutes in Bucharest as Bosnia enjoyed a commanding first victory of the break, having drawn 0-0 with Poland last week. The Leeds defender even scored a first ever competitive goal for his country and was recognised by national media outlets for his performance.

Bosnia needed just 12 minutes to go ahead in the Romanian capital, with midfielder Armin Gigovic on target, and their lead was doubled by Muharemovic just seven minutes later. The Leeds defender rose highest to head home a dangerous Ivan Basic corner, his second international goal and first in competitive action.

Daniel Birligea pulled one back for the home side just before the half-hour mark but Bosnia went into the break with a two-goal advantage intact following Haris Tabakovic’s 40th-minute effort. They went 4-1 up through Ermin Mahmic shortly after half-time with Romania grabbing their second through Alexandru Cicaldau on the hour.

Muharemovic was the standout player, recording a massive 17 defensive contributions - a combination of clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles - according to FotMob. That was by far the highest with Bosnia teammate Amar Memic second with 12. The Leeds man also won all three of his aerial duels and played 36 passes with an accuracy of 88 per cent.

Bosnian outlet SOP named Muharemovic their Man of the Match with an 8.5/10 rating. They wrote: “Muharemovic received a high score of 8.5 for his performance against Romania and was declared the best-rated player of the match for the Bosnian national team.”

Muharemovic has now played 90 minutes in both of Bosnia’s Nations League games so far, with the Leeds man a first-team regular at international level. Next up for the former Sassuolo man is a meeting with Sweden and one of his Elland Road teammates, Gabriel Gudmundsson.
