Leeds United team news vs Sunderland confirmed as decision made on summer arrival pair

Daniel Farke has named his Leeds United starting line-up to face Sunderland in New Jersey.

Leeds United’s line-up to face Sunderland has been confirmed with both summer signings handed first starts.

The Whites are looking for their first win of pre-season at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey. Last weekend’s US tour opener ended in a 3-2 defeat to Championship outfit Wrexham in Tampa, with Joel Piroe and Sean Longstaff on the scoresheet in an entertaining game.

Daniel Farke named a much-changed side for that game, with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jaka Bijol missing out through minor injury issues. Only Ao Tanaka was involved from the World Cup quartet while new signing Harry Wilson came off the bench at half-time.

Wilson has tonight been handed a first start with Farke edging towards a more senior starting-XI. The Welshman looks set to start at right-wing with Luka Nmecha upfront and Callum Mills the only academy prospect in the XI.

Further back, club captain Ethan Ampadu has dropped to the bench with Tanaka starting alongside last weekend’s goalscorer Longstaff. Jayden Bogle and the returning Gabriel Gudmundsson are at wing-back.

Fans will also get their first chance to see Tarik Muharemovic, with the £34million summer arrival starting in what looks like a back three. He’s alongside Joe Rodon and Sebastiaan Bornauw, with Alex Cairns in goal.

Leeds starting XI in full: Cairns; Rodon, Muharemovic, Bornauw; Bogle, Longstaff, Tanaka, Gudmundsson; Wilson, Mills, Nmecha

Subs: Mahady, Ombang, Justin, Lane, Lienou, Cresswell, Ampadu, Crew, Stach, Gnonto, Pickles, James, Chadwick, Piroe
