Leeds United transfer rumours as midfielder linked and bid 'prepared'

The latest transfer talk from Elland Road as Leeds United look to boost their squad during the January transfer window.

The January transfer window is open for business and Leeds United have been linked with a whole host of possible additions to their squad.

Daniel Farke’s men have moved on from a difficult run of form in recent weeks. The mood at Elland Road remains positive and there are high hopes the Whites can extend their top flight stay beyond a solitary season and avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Their hopes can be boosted with a positive January transfer window and a midfielder and winger are believed to be on the agenda over the coming weeks. One name that has surprisingly been linked with a move to Elland Road is Hibs midfielder Josh Mulligan, who has impressed during the first half of the Scottish Premiership season. FootMercato suggested Leeds, Forest, Wolfsburg and Lille were all keen on the former Dundee man and Hibs manager David Gray has opened up on the speculation linking Mulligan and team-mate Kieron Bowie with moves away during the coming month.

He told the Daily Record: “I think all the two can do is keep doing what they're doing. So I think they need to keep working hard, which is the biggest benefit. I say it all the time about them two is they're getting all the plaudits at the moment because of their level of performance, but they're really hard-working, humble boys that are enjoying their football. . hat's the most important thing.

“Their carrot's still going to be there for them. They'll keep coming up about trying to force their way into Scotland's squad. All they can do is keep taking care of their own performance levels and helping the team as much as they can. I think if they can do that, then naturally we've got other players as well. Speculation will always be there. There's nothing you can do about that, but you need to keep your feet on the ground and keep working hard.”

West Ham United also find themselves in a battle to preserve their Premier League status after struggling to find form and consistency during the opening four months of the season.

That heightens the importance of the January transfer window and the Hammers are believed to be focusing on defensive recruits with only bottom of the table Wolverhampton Wanderers conceding more goals in the league this season. Several potential additions have been suggested as targets - and former Leeds centre-back Charlie Cresswell is at the top of the list according to teamTALK.

They have claimed the Hammers are ‘preparing a proposal’ for the current Toulouse star after he established himself as a key figure at the heart of the Ligue 1 club’s defence this season. Although no possible fee is mentioned, the report states West Ham have been ‘monitoring him throughout the season’ and are now ‘keen to secure Cresswell’s signature this month’.
