Leeds United’s midfield unit could be set for change this summer as Daniel Farke’s side look to build on an impressive 2025/26 campaign. Elland Road recruitment chiefs are known to hold interest in Southampton’s young star Shea Charles and will no doubt have other options assessed.
Midfield is relatively well-stocked already with five core options all contributing last season, while attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson also dropped into the middle of the park when needed. The American could face increased competition for that role with one free agent eyed up and another virtually through the door.
Of course, a raft of new arrivals could pave the way for one or two difficult exits, while there are academy stars also exploring their pathways into senior football. Below, the YEP takes a look at what the Leeds midfield unit could look like next season.

1. KEEP: Ethan Ampadu
Leeds tied their club captain down to a new four-year contract earlier this summer and it could be one of their most important pieces of business. Now build the midfield around him. | Getty Images

2. KEEP: Ilia Gruev
Proved a useful squad player last season and would do so again, acting as a natural cover option for Ampadu. Leeds might have to sell one midfielder if they want to strengthen but other more profitable - if more difficult - avenues can be explored. | Getty Images

3. LOAN: Charlie Crew
Last season's loan spell at Doncaster Rovers didn't go as planned but Crew is still only 20-years-old. Perhaps another temporary exit would benefit the midfielder. | Linnea Rheborg/Getty Images

4. KEEP: Anton Stach
Another hugely important midfield option after an outstanding debut campaign in West Yorkshire. Leeds will hope the German can only improve with more games. | Getty Images

5. SELL: Ao Tanaka
A really difficult decision but if the right offer comes in, it's feasible Leeds take the potential for profit on a £3m signing. Tanaka was in and out of things last season and it's clear a new midfielder is wanted. | Mike Egerton/PA Wire

6. KEEP: Sean Longstaff
There's a world in which Leeds repeat their Glen Kamara trick and move Longstaff on for a quick profit, but with vast Premier League experience he feels like a good option to keep. Energy and forward running is also most similar to Stach. | Getty Images
