'It's the dream' - Leeds United-linked midfielder's honest Premier League transfer admission

Leeds United were linked with interest in the midfielder earlier this month.

Reported Leeds United transfer target Josh Mulligan admits it is a dream of his to play at the ‘highest level’ amid ongoing speculation over a possible Premier League move.

Mulligan was named as a potential transfer target for Leeds earlier this month with The Daily Mail reporting on interest in the midfielder. Nottingham Forest are also believed to have expressed an interest in the 23-year-old, who has been virtually ever present at Easter Road.

The Scottish midfielder has recently been likened to Aston Villa’s John McGinn, who himself impressed at Hibs before earning a move to the Midlands in 2023 where he has played over 300 games across all competitions. McGinn is now a household Premier League name and it’s a path Mulligan would also like to follow.

“Yeah, it's the dream for every young player to play at the highest level,” the reported Leeds target told the Edinburgh Evening News. “But I always tend to not look too far ahead.

“It gets to you, it honestly does. If you look too far ahead, it can affect you, I think. I've always looked at the next game. Tomorrow [vs Dundee], I'm right up for that one, so I'm looking forward to that.

“I did think I handled it quite well when I was there [at Dundee], so I'll just do the same here and focus on football first. Like I say, you're learning every day on the job and having that experience puts you in good stead. I'm just looking to not change, just be myself.”

It remains to be seen if Leeds will pursue a move for Mulligan in January, with more pressing priorities further up the pitch. A creative right-winger/No.10 was on the radar of Elland Road chiefs in the summer and is expected to remain so, while the growing importance of Dominic Calvert-Lewin has encouraged calls for extra cover upfront.

The YEP also understands Leeds are expected to explore the loan market when next month’s transfer window opens, with Hibs unlikely to sanction a temporary exit of their top performer without a cash offer. At present, it is currently rated highly unlikely that Daniel Farke’s squad will come through January without being strengthened.
