First Bus confirm redundancies to be made after concerns raised in Leeds

The company has also addressed other fears that were raised to the Yorkshire Evening Post

It has been confirmed that redundancies are set to be carried out within the First Bus group after concerns were raised in Leeds.

The company has said that 22 revenue protection officers - members of staff who get onboard buses to ensure tickets have been paid for - will be made redundant across the country.

It comes after concerns were raised to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

A spokesperson for First Bus also confirmed that there are no scheduled timetable changes, after worries about this were also raised to us.

It comes as the West Yorkshire Combined Authority continues its plans to rollout its new Weaver Network - the new, publicly controlled bus network that will be rolled out from next year across the county.

The First Bus spokesperson said: “We continually review and manage our operating structure effectiveness and as a result 22 Revenue Protection Officers across our entire business (not just in Yorkshire) have been placed at risk of redundancy. We cannot comment further on an ongoing consultation.

“We are continuing to support the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to ensure a smooth transition to franchising as part of the Mayor’s vision for bus services."
